Last month I was honored to deliver a training on The Role of the Parent in Healing a Suffering Child: Insights about love in response to anxiety and addiction as a family disease (affair) at the community lunch and learn event sponsored by Sierra Vista Hospital. Continuing Education Units were sponsored by Center for Discovery.

Below are the insights shared in a two-part feature on the need for  spiritual and emotional intelligence in being a parent today.

 Core Connectivity Mission

Restore Parental Confidence, Inspire Resilience, and

Empower Families to Strengthen their Bond

PERSONAL APPEAL

In the media-centered network culture it is easy to believe things that are not true, and focus on things that do not really matter. This can curtail parental confidence and increase childhood anxiety and trauma. Help me get some basic tools and insights into the hands of parents so they can more effectively help their children establish their own internal guidance systems to be safe and secure and counter the cyber-powered stressors of growing up with mobile connectivity.

You can help this cause by:

  • Making a donation to Banana Moments Foundation (non-profit parent of Core Connectivity)
  • Sharing these links to the tips for setting personal boundaries and establishing cyber rites of passage.

Crucial Conversation Concepts

Guidance for conversations with youth in a cyber-powered world, wherein it is easy to believe things that are not true and focus on things that do not really mater.

3 Ways parents shut down communication with their child

We worry and we call it caring. The reality is that when we worry, we send a signal to our children that it is not safe to bring any news that will disturb your peace. And this leaves the children vulnerable to figuring out how to deal with life issues without your wisdom.

We punish and we call it discipline. Consequences for violating house rules ahead of time can be punishing. But when we yell and dump rage at a child as we are enforcing a consequence, that is what causes a child to feel outcast…and the lesson the child learns is that the crime was to get caught. The chances of a child keeping risky secrets is greater.

We confuse our opinion with wisdom. Our opinion at any point of time and season of life is limited human understanding of a situation, a person or a thing. While wisdom involves thoughts that open the mind to expand their pool of meaning – to learn something. Wisdom thoughts are eternal, they bring about peace to self and others and they most importantly, transcend religious dogma.

NOTE: Worrying, punishing and insisting on our opinion as the only truth signals a lack of confidence to your child which means that it is not safe to talk about touchy subjects that disturb the peace.
